A flock of sheep moves across a high mountain pasture on the Durmitor plateau of northern Montenegro, the rugged blue ridgeline of the massif rising beyond rolling grassland dotted with scattered stone hamlets. Wispy cirrus streaks a deep blue autumn sky above the Dinaric Alps. The pastoral scene reflects centuries-old highland shepherding traditions still practised across the Piva and Durmitor highlands, where open summer pastures feed mixed flocks before the first snows of the season.
