Keizersgracht Leidsegracht Sunrise De Krijtberg Amsterdam

Warm spring sunrise light bathes the corner where Keizersgracht meets Leidsegracht in the southern Grachtengordel, striking the neo-Gothic facade of the De Krijtberg church in rich amber while the stone bridge and its ornate cast-iron lamppost cast long shadows across the paved quay. The canal recedes on either side, tree-lined and still, and the city has not yet stirred. The juxtaposition of the ecclesiastical spire and the working canal makes this one of Amsterdam's most quietly compelling early-morning corners.
