Julia heliconian facing the lens
Julia heliconian seen head-on, the compound eyes and proboscis clearly visible as the butterfly faces the camera. This angle is the hardest to catch — most heliconian photographs are taken from above or behind. The wings spread to either side reveal the subtle orange-to-russet gradient that distinguishes Dryas Iulia from related species. Tropical greenhouse, Amsterdam.
