Fine Art Print
A pond slider climbing mossy rocks
A single pond slider turtle (Trachemys scripta) climbs up moss-covered rocks, the yellow plastron with its dark spots clearly visible and the neck stretched into the characteristic alert posture. Webbed forelimbs and the distinctive yellow head striping mark the species. Sliders bask for hours daily to regulate body temperature and metabolise food — and, in the Amazon, to make themselves available to lachryphagous butterflies looking for a salt source.
