Reguliersbreestraat in raking light
Low golden raking light floods the length of Reguliersbreestraat in Amsterdam at the end of an April day, catching the brick facades and tram tracks in a warm blaze while the shop fronts and restaurant signs fall into deep shadow. Two pedestrians with a bicycle between them are silhouetted against the brilliant light, their figures dwarfed by the tall commercial buildings on either side. At the far end, the Munttoren clock tower rises as a vertical exclamation point where the street meets the water.
