Julia butterfly with open wings
A Julia butterfly (Dryas iulia) holds its wings fully open on a stem inside a tropical butterfly house in Amsterdam, its vivid orange wings marked with thin black border lines and a small dark apical patch on each forewing. The lush green bokeh of the tropical greenhouse frames the butterfly without competing. Shot in May 2026 with the Nikon Z 9 and MC 105mm macro, the image catches this Neotropical species warming in diffused greenhouse light.
