A hoverfly from the family Syrphidae rests motionless on a narrow lance-shaped leaf in this macro shot taken in Delfshaven, Rotterdam. Shot against a smooth green bokeh background, the insect's large compound eyes and intricately patterned orange-and-brown abdomen are rendered in sharp detail, while the leaf tapers away into soft blur. Hoverflies are important pollinators that mimic the appearance of bees and wasps as a defense mechanism.
