Yellow Bud Cracking Open

A yellow flower bud — most likely Hypericum or a related species — cracks open to reveal its inner architecture: curved yellow petals, orange-red stamen base, and hairy sepals radiating outward like a crown. A tiny insect is present at the base of the petals, visible at full resolution. Shot in June 2021 with the Nikon D850 and 105mm macro in the Netherlands, this image catches the precise mechanical act of a flower opening for the first time.
