Zebra longwing on a tropical leaf
A Zebra Longwing (Heliconius charithonia) rests on a broad tropical leaf in a tropical greenhouse in Amsterdam, its distinctive black wings banded with cream-yellow stripes and marginal white spots sharply rendered by the Nikon Z 9 MC 105mm macro. One of the few butterflies able to digest pollen for protein, H. charithonia lives far longer than most lepidopterans. Shot in May 2026 in a tropical butterfly greenhouse — among the most graphically striking butterflies in the Americas.
