Zebra Longwing Resting Wings Spread Amsterdam
Same zebra longwing seconds later, antennae lifted, body angled slightly toward the camera. The cream bars run continuously from forewing to hindwing in the pattern that gives the species its name. Heliconius charithonia is one of the few butterflies that feeds on pollen as well as nectar, a behaviour that supports its unusually long lifespan and explains why conservatory specimens are so often photographed in repose rather than in flight.
